Our loving Martha Ann Smith, 79 of East Providence, RI, passed away peacefully January 4, 2024 with her beloved companion Wayne Horne of 40 years at her side. Born in Jefferson, Alabama, the daughter of the late John and Addie May (Green) Jefferies.

Martha was employed at the Rhode Island Adult Department of Corrections Institute (ACI) Women’s Division as a Correctional Officer for 38 years prior to retirement. She attended Johnson & Wales College.

Martha enjoyed dining out with her family. Her personality and smile was infectious, she was the most compassionate, caring and generous person who loved her family immensely. She enjoyed family gatherings and will be remembered for her unconditional devotion to family, fine taste, style and sense of humor. She loved to wear leopard attire and matching accessories with a touch of red.

Along with her cherished companion Wayne Horne, Martha was the loving and devoted mother of sons Darryl Smith, Kenneth Smith and daughter Sibyl Smith, East Providence, RI. Grandmother of Christopher Bryant and Marquis Bryant of California, Kenneth Dulin and Darian Dulin, Providence, RI and Elijah Ramos, East Providence, RI. Great-grandmother of Maliyah Bryant, Christopher Bryant, Jr., Tylaija Dulin, Haley Broughton and Damari Perry. Daughters in law Sally Green-Smith and Gail (Sonia) Dodson.

She is also survived by her loving and devoted sister Sally A. (Roberson) Moltimore, Riverside, RI. Special nieces Daphne (Roberson) Carter, Marvine Jones, Denise Jefferies-Johnson, Loretta Jefferies-Young, nephews Enoch Jones, Jr., and Abraham Jefferies, Jr., brother-in-law LeeOtis Jordan, special brothers-in-love Clay Horne (Phyllis), Gregory Horne (Lenora) and Bobby (Sheila) Horne along with a host of family and friends who cherished her dearly.

Martha was predeceased by her husband Joseph Smith, son Christopher Smith, grandson Haikeem Moore, granddaughters Leisharna Rollins and Jackee’ Dulin. Her siblings, Theodore Jefferies, Cleo (Jefferies) Jones, Phillip Jefferies, Abraham Jefferies and Thomas Jefferies. Mother in-law Janie Lattimore and Mother in-love Linnear Horne.

The family wishes to thank everyone for the calls, cards, text messages and loving support shown during this difficult time. Special thank you to the physicians, nursing staff and care providers at Miriam Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital and Rev. Carl H. Barlark and The Ebenezer Baptist Church family.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 11:30-12:30pm at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Ave, Lincoln, RI. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30am. Burial will follow immediately at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone, Blvd, Providence, RI.
